What is Long Exposure Photography?
Long Exposure Photography begins with an exposure of 1 second and over.

Mt St Helens and Castle Lake V1

Castle Lake didn't exist before May 18, 1980. When Mt St Helens erupted the debris flow blocked Castle Creek and created a natural Dam resulting in what is now called Castle Lake you can see it to the right of Mt St Helens.

The two above photos were created from a subset of the 89 exposures below.

The below "time lapse" video is made up of 89 exposures.

Note: I am about to begin offering private one on one instruction covering this very versatile technique for making these "Long Exposure" types of photos without the need for ND filters.

A River Runs Under It

The Paradise River on Mt Rainier is almost covered over by ice and snow at this location on the way up to the Paradise Area of the mountain, a popular winter play ground and the main starting point for climbers going up to the summit.
Thors Well is a feature on the Oregon coast on Cape Perpetua, it is a blowhole, when the tide is right you get this scene. As usual timing is everything its after a wave comes in then up through the hole it spouts like a fountain, for me its when the water's receding back into the hole that the scene becomes spectacular. Making long exposures at varying exposure values, combining the exposure bracket set using manual blending techniques is produces what looks like an  entrance to the under world.

Note: Being completely in the moment is critical here, literally one wrong step, or not being aware of a larger than normal (also known as a  "Sneaker") wave, its easy to see where you would likely end up.

Flowing Lenticulars

This is another example of using a technique in Photoshop to combine several exposures which gives the illusion of a single long exposure, the top lenticular cloud was moving to the left faster than the lower lenticular cloud was moving to the right which gave an interesting look to the clouds.
